It’s taking me forever to catch up on projects around the farm. And because mowing the fields is a slow process, it always somehow ends up last on the list. So, this week I am finally forcing myself to tackle it, a few hours every day after work.
It’s not so bad if I do it in smaller, manageable bites:
And it moves along smoothly despite a few minor roadblocks:
Plus, I have my wonderful assistant to keep me company while I work:
We won’t mention the baby bunny she ate, though…
That’s probably my bad. But Maisie did find Hanz’s bell boots. He’s been missing one for the last two days and Maisie found not one but two! She is my expert field scavenger, and not only finds bell boots and fly masks, but brings them home! Retrieving is not even in her job description, so I consider this above and beyond the call of duty. I have to forgive her for the bunny. Plus, she’s a dog. It’s what they do.
It has taken a couple of days to do this field, but overall, it’s not a bad way to spend an afternoon. I have a set of hearing protection headphones that are bluetooth capable, and when I remember to charge my phone, I can even listen to music or audiobooks while I mow! Once I start, I actually find it kind of hypnotic, and mowing the patterns into the field is sort of therapeutic in its own strange way. Am I weird? Certainly. But even though sitting on the tractor for hours on end is hot and buggy and definitely makes my back stiff after a while, it doesn't exactly feel like work.
So, at the end of the day we have:
Bunnies: -1 :-(
Bell Boots: +2 :-)
Fields Mowed: +1 :-D
Now, on to the next one!
